EASTERN BOTSWANA HORSE BACK SAFARIS
10 Day - Tuli Horse Safaris
This Safari is one of the most unique equine adventures offered and takes you through one of the last wild frontiers as you explore the unspoiled African Bushveld and the mighty Limpopo River, as well as exploring the relics of old, the Zeederburg coach line route and a Boer War Battle site.
DAY 1
Upon arrival at Pont Drift border post/Tuli Airstrip at 12H00 sharp, a Mashatu game guide and vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Fort Jameson for lunch. You will be introduced to your trusty steed and taken out on a short introductory ride to acclimatise both horse and rider. There will be sundowners at Fort Jameson, followed by a 3-hour night game drive. You will be spending the night at Mashatu Tented camp where dinner will be served in the Boma, overlooking the watering hole.
DAY 2
The day begins at sunrise. You will be transferred to Fort Jameson for tea/coffee and a delicious early morning breakfast surprise. Departure from Fort Jameson will be around 6H30. The route heads off in a westerly direction along the Tuli Circle, following the Jwala River, which joins up with the Matabole River. The camp is situated on a bend of the Jwala River. Lunch will be served in camp, where after you may relax, read a book or have a siesta. This area is known for its large predators. Dinner will be cooked and served from the open fire.
DAY 3
Early wake-up call with tea/coffee and delicious breakfast treats around the fire. Today's trail goes through a central game area, which should provide excellent game viewing and opportunities to ride amongst large herds of antelope. There is freedom on this morning's ride to track and encounter wildlife and the environment as it presents itself. Your destination for the day is at 3-Mashatus camp, where lunch will be served
The afternoon is spent relaxing, taking a walk in the late afternoon and exploring the surrounding bush, "getting at one with nature". Dinner will be cooked on the open fire.
DAY 4
Early morning rise, with breakfast served around the campfire. Depart from 3-Mashatus camp and ride up to the Tuli circle through highly populated game areas. On arrival at Zeederburg camp lunch will be served. The afternoon is free for relaxing and exploring. Expect a wonderful dinner around the campfire under the starry African sky.
DAY 5
Early morning rise, with breakfast served around the campfire. Today the trail follows the famous Zeederburg coach route, including a visit to an Anglo-Boer war site. The destination for the day is at the confluence of the Majale and Limpopo Rivers where a wonderful lunch awaits you.
This riveriene spot is home to large herds of elephant. The afternoon is spent exploring the Limpopo River banks on foot, returning to Limpopo camp for sundowners, dinner and a night around the campfire.
DAY 6
Early morning rise to tea/coffee and breakfast. This mornings ride will include a visit to Nel's Vlei, and various historically significant Boer-war battle sights. There are large open plains that afford the opportunity for exhilarating riding amongst herds of wildebeest and zebra. Lunch will be served on arrival at Pete's Pond.
Pete's Pond has a hide overlooking a large watering hole, the wildlife and bird life is prolific.
The afternoon can be spent sitting in the hide overlooking the water hole. You will be treated to another famous meal on the fire and a night under the African sky.
DAY 7
Early morning wake-up to tea/coffee and breakfast around the fire. The early morning start will be much appreciated, as it is a relatively long ride to the Motloutse River. You will ride through the central game area and across the veterinary game fence. The area outside of the veterinary fence is home to both wild and domestic animals. Lunch will be at Makotlo camp.
The afternoon will include a walking excursion to "King Solomon's wall". Makotlo camp will provide an oasis on your return, with sundowners and a delicious dinner.

DAY 8
Up at sunrise for breakfast and then say goodbye to Makotlo camp. You will then head off for the "Great, Green, Grey, Greasy Limpopo". On the way there will be a stop over at "Eagles Rock" which is home to a pair of Black Eagles. Today will also yield the sightings of bushman relics. From here the ride kicks on to the Limpopo Valley and some wonderful riding up the river. The overnight camp is the wonderfully secluded Mokowe camp.
Once again the relaxing afternoon will be appreciated and made all the more decadent by culinary delights. Sightings include hippopotamus, crocodile and an abundance of bird life. Enjoy the evening serenade by the hippo.
DAY 9
The usual early morning routine, the ride sets off for hyena cave, thereafter arriving at the 3000 year old baobab tree, which can be climbed by the more adventurous. Thereafter it is on to the Old Sukses farmhouse where the horses are loaded onto the truck and a Mashatu game vehicle is waiting to return you to Fort Jameson. You will spend the night in the luxury Mashatu Tented camp, with the night game drive and supper in the Boma.
DAY 10
The wake-up call at Mashatu Tented camp is early, so that you can enjoy your last game drive, returning for brunch. You will be transferred to Pont Drift border post/Tuli Airstrip for your departure.
