8 Day - Tuli Horse Safaris

DAY 1

Upon arrival at Pont Drift border post/Tuli Airstrip at 12H00 sharp, a Mashatu game guide and vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Fort Jameson for lunch. You will be introduced to your trusty steed and taken out on a short introductory ride to acclimatise both horse and rider. There will be a sundowner at Fort Jameson, followed by a 3-hour night game drive. You will be spending the night at Mashatu Tented camp where dinner will be served in the Boma, overlooking the watering hole.

DAY 2

The day begins at sunrise. You will be transferred to Fort Jameson for tea/coffee and a delicious early morning breakfast surprise. Departure from Fort Jameson will be around 6H30. The route heads off in a westerly direction along the Tuli Circle, following the Jwala River, which joins up with the Matabole River. The camp is situated on a bend of the Jwala River. Lunch will be served in camp, where after you may relax, read a book or have a siesta. This area is known for its large predators.

Dinner will be cooked and served from the open fire.

 

DAY 3

Early wake-up call with tea/coffee and delicious breakfast treats around the fire. Today's trail goes through a central game area, which should provide excellent game viewing and opportunities to ride amongst large herds of antelope. There is freedom on this morning's ride to track and encounter wildlife and the environment as it presents itself. Your destination for the day is at 3-Mashatus camp, where lunch will be served

The afternoon is spent relaxing, taking a walk in the late afternoon and exploring the surrounding bush, "getting at one with nature".

Dinner will cook on the open fire, where you will then rest your weary body until the next morning.

DAY 4

Early morning rise, with breakfast served around the campfire. Depart from 3-Mashatus camp and ride up to the Tuli circle through highly populated game areas. On arrival at Zeederburg camp lunch will be served.

The afternoon is free for relaxing and exploring. Expect a wonderful dinner around the campfire under the starry African sky.

 

DAY 5

Early morning rise, with breakfast served. Today the trail follows the famous Zeederburg coach route, including a visit to an Anglo-Boer war site. The destination for the day is at the confluence of the Majale and Limpopo Rivers where a wonderful lunch will await you.

This riveriene spot is home to large herds of elephant. The afternoon is spent exploring the Limpopo River banks on foot, returning to Limpopo camp for sundowners, dinner and a night around the campfire.

DAY 6

Early morning rise to tea/coffee and a delicious breakfast. This mornings ride will include a visit to Nel's Vlei, and various historically significant Boer-war battle sights. There are large open plains that afford the opportunity for exhilarating riding amongst herds of wildebeest and zebra. Lunch will be served on arrival at Pete's Pond.

Pete's Pond camp has a hide overlooking a large watering hole, the wildlife and bird life is prolific.

The afternoon can be spent sitting in the hide overlooking the watering hole. You will be treated to another famous meal and a night under the African sky.

DAY 7

Early morning wake-up to tea/coffee and breakfast. The riding traverses the central game area with great sightings and riding guaranteed. The aim is to arrive back at Fort Jameson for 11H30, so that you can be transferred to Mashatu Tented camp in time for lunch.

The afternoon activities include a late afternoon/evening game drive, returning for dinner in the Boma.

 

DAY 8

Wake-up call at Mashatu Tented camp is early, so that you can enjoy your last game drive, returning for brunch. You will be transferred to Pont Drift border post/Tuli Airstrip for your departure.
