KICHECHE
MARA CAMP Kicheche Mara Camp in Kenya's Masai Mara, lying adjacent to the Great Rift Valley, boasts the single largest concentration of plains game anywhere in the world. The reserve is one of the very few areas left in Africa where wildlife can be seen in the large numbers that existed a hundred years ago. Between July and October the
plains darken with wildebeest and zebra, unending columns from the adjoining
Serengeti passing through on their hazardous annual journey in search
of fresh pastures, unaware that they themselves are prime targets for
the relentless native predators - lions, leopards and cheetahs. But there
is more to the Mara than its prolific wildlife - towering escarpments,
acacia-dotted grasslands, blazing sunsets and towering rain clouds provide
photo-opportunities at every turn.
THE CAMP
We utilise alternative sources of energy like solar power and candlelight. The mod-cons of urban living in concrete lodges is not our scene. Nor is noisy nightlife. Not that Kicheche is silent, the natural sounds of the bush are all part of the experience. Accommodation Spacious, fully insect-proof tents. Your private bathrooms have a central dressing area and separate compartments for the shower and toilet. Hot water for showers or washing is available at any time. There are canvas director's chairs on the veranda and hammocks slung between nearby trees to relax in. Game-viewing drives are conducted by 4WD open-topped Landcruiser vehicles.
Our Nyati tent with its comfortable local furnishings and informative collection of reference books is a delightful place to relax between game drives or other activities.
Included in the rate is a daily laundry service. Please note this is a bush laundry which cannot cope with delicate items of clothing. The Masai Mara is serviced daily from Nairobi by 2 scheduled flights. We collect from the Ngerende airstrip in the western Mara, a thirty minute game-viewing drive from camp. SUGGESTED ITINERARY Day 1 Take the 45 minute scheduled morning flight from Wilson Airport, Nairobi to the Mara. We will meet you and transfer you across the plains to the camp. Freshen up before lunch. Afterwards, relax and absorb the surroundings before setting off on an afternoon game drive till sunset. Return to camp for hot showers, then an aperitif before dining under the stars. Day 2 Rise early with tea or coffee brought to your tent. At dawn set off for drive on the plains. Return for a hearty breakfast, then perhaps visit a Masai Manyatta (village). Lunch, then relax in the camp. Afternoon tea is followed by further game-viewing to sunset. Return for an evening around the campfire. Day 3 Another early start for your final game drive. After breakfast we transfer you back to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. Extensions - Days 4 and 5 Visit
