WILDERNESS
EXPERIENCE Samburu/Buffalo Springs Reserve located in the arid north offers a very different arid habitat to the South of the country. The Reserve has many elephants roaming throughout along with an array of predators and rarer plains game. The Masai Mara Reserve needs little introduction it's rolling grass plains supporting a large population of predators and plains game alike, it is also host to the annual wildebeest migration between July and October. Both Reserves have a remarkable array of bird species including Northern migrants between November and March. Accommodation is in two classic bush camps located away from any other camps or lodges. Both camps have a high standard of cuisine, offer a personalized service and provide a true wilderness experience. Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi. Met and transferred to Macushla House. Rest of day at leisure. Overnight Macushla House. Macushla House is a beautifully decorated home with 4 guest rooms and a swimming pool. It’s located in Nairobi’s Langata suburb so it is quiet and peaceful and a great escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It is within walking distance of the Giraffe Centre and close to Karen Blixen museum, several artisan workshops and the Utamaduni Craft Centre.
Days 3 & 4: Two full days for game viewing, take early morning and late evening game drives returning to the lodge for meals. Overnight at Olla Odda Camp. Day 5: This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for flight to Masai Mara Game Reserve departing at 0915 to arrive 1045. Here we will meet you and transfer you across the plains to the camp. Freshen up before lunch. Later set off on an afternoon game drive till sunset. Return to camp for a hot shower, then join us around the campfire for an aperitif before dining under the stars. Kicheche Mara Camp is a luxury bush camp hidden away in a grove of trees on the Aitong plains of the Masai Mara. There are a maximum of 20 guests, all staying under canvas in this intimate camp situated in prime wildlife habitat.
Days 6 & 7: Rise early with tea or coffee brought to your tent. At dawn set off for another drive on the plains. Return to the camp for a leisurely breakfast. Afterwards, explore the camp surrounds, or visit a Maasai manyatta (village). Lunch and a chance to relax in camp. Afternoon tea is followed by further game-viewing to sunset. Return to camp for an evening around the campfire. The Masai Mara game reserve, is probably the most famous in Africa. Rising grassland nearly 2000m above sea level, watered by the Mara river and covering an area of 1500 sq. km.
The Mara is well known for the part it plays in the seasonal (June/Sept) migration from the Serengeti of 200,000 Zebra, 300,000 Thomson Gazelle and 1.3 million Wildebeest following the annual rains. The Mara region however provides for wonderful game viewing year round. In all 95 mammal, amphibian and reptile species plus 485 flying species excluding insects inhabit the Mara eco-system.
