DAY 1 Departure from Backpackers Lodge, Windhoek, 7.30am. Short stop Otiwarongo for fresh produce. Roadside lunch between Otavi and Tsumeb. We stop at Lake Otjikoto to view this fascinating sink hole in the Kalahari basin. We arrive late afternoon and set up camp near a traditional Ovambo village. We learn about rural life in Ovamboland and spend the evening around the campfire.Day 2 This morning we participate in some traditional activities and visit the museum before driving through the heart of Ovamboland, Namibia's most densely populated tribal area. We stop at some Cuca Shops for drinks and a chat to the locals. We arrive at our camp near Ruacana Falls mid afternoon and pitch camp. Afternoon at leisure for bird and crocodile watching. Dinner prepared by guide with groups assistance. Evening spent around the camp fire.
Day 3 Kunene River: After breakfast we climb into our rafts for a full day of exciting white water rafting on the Kunene River (rafting may be unavailable due to seasonal flooding of river). Arrive at Kunene River Lodge mid afternoon to pitch camp. Dinner prepared by guide with assistance from the group. Evening spent around the campfire.
Day 4 Epupa: We depart after breakfast and follow the river for a short distance. We then turn inland seeing himba along the roadside. We arrive at camp mid afternoon and watch the sunset over the falls. Dinner prepared by the guide with groups assistance. Evening spent around the campfire.
Day 5 Day of leisure at Epupa Falls to meet the locals and to explore the river on foot. We can visit the village set up by the Himba and buy local crafts directly from the community. Dinner prepared by the guide with the groups assistance. Evening spent around the campfire.
Day 6 Ongongo: We depart Epupa early and re-fuel and get fresh supplies in Opuwo, the regional capital of this wild and rugged area. We drive through a spectacular mountain pass and arrive at Sesfontein for a short stop. We carry on to the warm spring at Ongongo where we will camp overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 7 Cheetah Farm: Early morning swim before we game drive towards Kamanjab keeping a sharp lookout for desert elephant and many other species that have adapted to this harsh environment. We arrive at camp and enjoy activities this afternoon with the cheetah.
Day 8 Windhoek: We drive back to Windhoek today via the craft market at Okahandja.
