Fregate Island (Private)

The first visitors to Fregate were pirates, who sought temporary refuge here following their raids. The island provided them with everything they needed: secret hideaways, fresh water and an abundant supply of food. Now a refuge for those seeking privacy and exclusivity, Fregate is a tropical island paradise. The coral sands are lapped by an impossibly turquoise sea, coconuts are washed up on the beach, palm fronds waft in the light breeze, fresh spring water cascades down the rocks on its journey to the ocean and the scent of jasmine is in the air.

The sixteen villas, sympathetically constructed of local materials and placed to make the most of the idyllic surroundings, are exquisitely decorated. The living room, large bedroom and two bathrooms feature hand-carved wood, Thai silk, fresh flowers and Egyptian cottons to create an informal yet luxurious atmosphere. Rare antiques and works of art ensure that each villa has its own character and style.

The main restaurant, centrally placed, serves a gourmet cuisine and fine wines. You will enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean as you dine. Alternatively, the carefully restored, historic Seychelles Plantation House serves Creole delicacies. Water sports are almost unlimited - Fregate Island has its own marina with a fleet of boats, including small sailboats, yachts, catamarans and motor yachts for deep-sea fishing. Scuba diving excursions uncover the fascinating underwater world of the coral reefs. A freshwater swimming pool integrated into a natural rock basin is surrounded by indigenous trees and plants, with beautiful decking on which to relax and sun yourself. Fregate Island is also home to rare animals and plants, most notably the astonishing giant tortoise and the Magpie Robin, which is found nowhere else in the world. Fregate really is an unspoilt paradise.
