Day Pre-Kilimanjaro Climb Safari Special Day 1 - Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. Here you will be collected by a Safari Africa representative and taken to Arusha for an overnight stay at Moivaro Lodge, a small family run hotel, set in lovely gardens on the slopes of Mount Meru, Africa's fifth highest mountain - just 5 kms from the town centre. Dinner and overnight at Moivaro Lodge.
Day 2 - Arusha to the Serengeti After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airport for the one hour scheduled flight to Seronera in central Serengeti. This is a pleasant scenic flight and animals can be seen in fabulous scenery. Meet your Driver at the Airstrip and game drive across the plains. Lunch at Serengeti Sopa Lodge which is set on a low ridge with lovely views out over the National Park. There is resident game in the areas which are well known to the Drivers and when it is 'quiet' for the mammals, a wealth of exciting bird life. After a restful break, an evening game drive out across the plains towards Seronera. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Day 3 - Serengeti Sopa Lodge A full day in the immense Serengeti plains which are interspersed with acacia and scrub and forest with many river courses and gullies. There are many resident herds of wildebeest and zebra and the gazelles. Lion, hyena and cheetah, along giraffe, buffalo, eland and warthog can all be seen at any time of the year. Lunch can be a picnic or taken back at the lodge. Game drive in the late afternoon after relaxation by the swimming pool. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge Day 4 - Serengeti Sopa Lodge to Olduvai Camp Another full day out into the Serengeti - looking for the elusive leopard in the river valleys and among the 'kopjes'(small rocky outcrops on the plains) and cheetah out on the more open areas. Picnic lunch is under an acacia tree and then proceed to the Ndutu and Olduvai areas, off-road, over the plains. The Olduvai Camp is situated in a kopje off one of the side gorges of Olduvai.
At 1400m, the Camp is at the beginning of the South Serengeti Plains and has stunning views of the Crater rim, the Ngorongoro Highlands and the volcanoes and valleys. There are fifteen large, well-separated tents in safari style with en suite shower and chemical toilet. The thatched dining area is further up into the rocks where there is also a small bar. Sitting around the camp fire for aperitif and after dinner is very popular. There are opportunities to walk around the Camp to the high rocks nearby. Our Maasai guard patrol throughout the night. Dinner and overnight at Olduvai Camp Day 5 - Olduvai Camp to Plantation Lodge After breakfast, a relaxed visit to the Visitors' Centre and palaeontological area of Oldvai Gorge in the cool of the morning. The site guides take visitors on a stroll in the Gorge down to the place where the skull of 'Zinjanthropus'- early man - was unearthed. A full day exploring the actual Ngorongoro Crater - a famous World Heritage Site, with its wonderful array of mammals and birds. There is a chance of seeing the very rare black rhino. Plantation Lodge is the top property in the area and it has a working farm with a shady garden, a small pool, lovely trees and luxuriant plants. Dinner and overnight at Plantation Lodge Day 6 - Plantation Lodge to Moivaro Lodge After a walk on the farm and lunch, you transfer to Moivaro Lodge in Arusha for a chat over afternoon tea with our Manager about your safari. The evening is spent at leisure, after checking kit and packing for the climb. Dinner and overnight at Moivaro Lodge. Price Guide 6
