THE WILDERNESS ADVENTURE HIGHLIGHTS * Victoria Falls * Kafue National * Park Lower Zambezi Canoeing * * Lower Zambezi National Park *
The name Zambia, derives from the Zambezi River. The country is located on the central African plateau which is above 1100m in elevation. Kafue National Park was established in 1924 and is one of the largest in Africa. Its ecological diversity has resulted in the widest range of mammal species of any park in Zambia. The Lower Zambezi National Park is the most recent of Zambia's National Parks and was for many years a forgotten wilderness. It lies along the northern banks of the Zambezi River opposite Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe. We spend 3 days canoeing in this wilderness area, where we may see herds of buffalo, waterbuck, impala, elephant and predators such as lion, hyena and leopard.

DAYS 1/2: LIVINGSTONE / VICTORIA FALLSThe former capital of Zambia is situated 8km from Victoria Falls. The Livingstone Museum has a particularly good collection of memorabilia relating to the explorer / missionary Dr David Livingstone. It comprises personal letters, notebooks, maps and items of clothing, which are on display. There is also a natural history gallery. The days are at leisure allowing time for the various optional excursions available; a flight over the falls, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River or white water rafting (August to December).
DAYS 3/4: SOUTHERN KAFUE NATIONAL PARK
The vegetation consists of Miombo Woodlands, tall Mopane forests and the wonderfully wide Nanzhila grassland Plains. The area is dotted with termite mounds and surrounded by baobabs and euphorbia. We go for enjoyable game drives in the early morning and late afternoon.
DAYS 5/6/7: NORTHERN KAFUE NATIONAL PARK
Vegetation in the northern section of this park is dominated by the Miombo Woodlands, Termitaria zones and the enormous Busanga floodplain. The ecological diversity of the park as a whole has probably resulted in the widest range of mammals in the country.
DAY 8: BLUE LAGOON PARK
The park is a wetland teeming with birdlife.
DAY 9: LUSAKA - KIAMBI CAMP
We purchase supplies in Lusaka and drive down the Zambezi Escarpment to our campsite at Kiambi Camp on the banks of the Zambezi.
DAYS 10/11/12: LOWER ZAMBEZI CANOEING
We board our canoes for 3 days of canoeing on the Zambezi River. Whilst paddling down the gentle current of the river, we relax and enjoy watching the game and wildlife at close quarters.
DAY 13: LOWER ZAMBEZI - GAME VIEWING
We enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives in this scenic National Park.
DAY 14: LOWER ZAMBEZI
We travel through the Park to return to Kiambi camp, either by vehicle or by boat. The Park has a population of buffalo, waterbuck, hippo, elephant, lion, zebra, hyena, leopard and numerous species of birds. Kiambi Camp offers superb views over the Zambezi and Kafue Rivers.
DAY 15: KIAMBI CAMP - KARIBA
The second largest man-made lake in the world is 28Okm long and 32km wide at its maximum width. The dam wall was built at the entrance of the gorge called by the local tribe Kariba (little trap). Our safari ends in Kariba after a transfer to the airport (±11h00).
