ZAMBEZI
WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE A 7 nights / 8 days safari A safari in Zambia offers Africa’s finest wilderness experience. The Zambezi Valley, with the mighty Zambezi River forming its southern boundary, is a wildlife paradise. The rugged Zambezi escarpment forms a dramatic backdrop to the valley, and the fertile woodlands and floodplain, with abundant water, attract huge numbers of elephant and buffalo as well as the many species of antelope. The predators – lion, leopard, spotted hyaena and wild dog aren’t far behind. The river offers excellent boat based wildlife and bird viewing with a high concentration of hippo, crocodile and riverine bird species. The Valley is one of the most exciting birdwatching destinations in Africa. Huge colonies of brightly coloured bee-eaters and other birds breed in the steep banks of the river, and the shallows and sandbars along the river offer feeding grounds to a wide variety of waterbirds. Dense riverine woodland, open grasslands, dry deciduous thickets, thorny Acacia woodland are home to a huge variety of birds from large eagles to tiny lovebirds. The area is still very non-commercial, and visitors can experience a truly wild and remote part of Africa. Days 1 to 4 A charter flight to Livingstone moves us on for our final three nights upstream of the magnificent Victoria Falls. Days 5 to 8 A visit to Victoria Falls is also part of the itinerary For the more adventurous there are a host of other activities available such as white-water rafting, kayaking, bungi jumping, microlight flights over the Falls and so on. These activities are not included in the cost of this safari but can be arranged once we arrive at the lodge. Derek Solomon will personally lead each tour. Derek is a well-known ornithologist and naturalist, and has published several books on birds and birding in southern Africa. His most recent publication is "LBJs made easier" a book on the identification of those little brown jobs that cause so many difficulties in the field. He is currently working on a guide to the behaviour of the wildlife of east and southern Africa, a joint project with Dr Dale Toweill, a prominent wildlife biologist based in the USA. The safari ends in Livingstone
with its convenient regular direct flights back to Lusaka or to Johannesburg
to connect with flights back home or other safari destinations. This safari can be arranged
